Founded in 1969 with an explicit research assignment and a mission to provide high-​quality research-​oriented teaching. With around 25,000 students, the University currently encompasses 14 faculties. It offers a differentiated range of disciplines in the humanities, natural sciences, technology as well as in medicine. Universität Bielefeld is an internationally successful institution with networks across the globe. It sees itself as a social space for reflection, characterised by international exchange and cultural openness. In June 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Ranking nominated Bielefeld University as one of the 20 best young universities worldwide. 

The Department of Business Administration and Economics at Universität Bielefeld is a strongly research oriented department with a particular focus on the analysis of economic dynamics, heterogeneous agent models, game theory and quantitative research on economic policy issues and a growing research group in data science.

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is one of the most prestigious universities in the Netherlands and a leading research university in Europe. The Center for Nonlinear Dynamics in Economics and Finance (CeNDEF) is a leading international research center on complex adaptive systems and behavioural economics and finance. In particular, CeNDEF has specialized in theoretical understanding and empirical and experimental testing of behavioral models with heterogeneous expectations.

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is one of the major public universities in Spain. It runs 68 doctoral programmes and an average of 850 PhD dissertations are defended per year. The UAB has over 39,000 students, almost 4,500 researchers and teaching staff, and hosts more than 5,000 foreign students.

UCPH has more than 40,000 students (including 4.000 international students) enrolled, more than 2,500 PhD students and an additional 9,000 employees (both research and administrative) and is the largest research and education institution in Denmark. Internationally, the UCPH is highly competitive and ranked as one of the leading universities globally (e.g., Shanghai ranking: No. 30 worldwide, No. 6 in Europe).

The Faculty of Science is the largest at the UCPH and within the Department of Mathematical Sciences (MATH) has around 45 PhD students, with a lively and scientifically inspiring atmosphere. The section Statistics and Probability Theory (SPT) consist of around 35 professors, postdocs and PhD students. The research covers topics ranging from probability theory and mathematical statistics to applied statistics.

The Data Science Laboratory (DSL) is hosted by MATH and the Department for Computer Science. The overall aim of DSL is to enhance the quality of data analyses in research. This is promoted by inter-disciplinary collaborations, mainly with researchers from the Faculty of Science. The laboratory has expertise in data acquisition (measurements, signals, images, etc.), data processing (including design of algorithms and statistical models and large-scale computations), and analysis of the results (statistically well-founded conclusions). DSL guides students at all levels, as well as researchers, and conduct courses and workshops in data analysis.

Founded in 1921, UCSC is the largest private university in Europe with 12 Faculties, 5 campuses across Italy (Milan, Rome, Piacenza, Cremona and Brescia), 80 specialized research labs, 2,000 faculty members, and about 41,000 students of which nearly 1,800 are international students. Research activity draws on 1,327 tenured researchers, 35 institutes, 30 departments, 82 research centres, 5 university centres and 10 spin-offs and is aimed towards the study and understanding of crucial issues of life and society: new frontiers in economics and bioethics, changes in the field of law, family and cultural trends, mass media, changes in political systems, aims and goals of medicine, technological applications of mathematics and physics, and the most recent discoveries in environmental research. UCSC boasts strong industrial and institutional ties that facilitate networking at national and international level as well as collaborations in groundbreaking research projects, which generated about 4,500 scientific publications over the last year particularly in the fields of scientific innovations, environment and sustainability, and health. UCSC is highly engaged in carrying out multidisciplinary research projects both at national and international level.

Paris 1 University is a descendant of both the Sorbonne and the Panthéon Faculty of law and economics. Nearly 40,000 students are enrolled in its 14 teaching and research departments and 4 institutes, which together offer a full range of courses at the highest level from law and political science to economics, management and the humanities and social sciences. Established in the heart of the city's Latin Quarter, Paris 1 shares with other city universities some of the most prestigious French academic buildings, including the Sorbonne, the Panthéon Faculty of law, the Institute of Geography and the Institute of Art and Archaeology.

Ca' Foscari University of Venice, established in 1868 as Royal Business College, was the first of its kind in Italy. Today, it is recognized as one of the best universities in the country, offering its students diverse and ample study programmes in the following areas: Humanities, Foreign Languages, Economics and Business, Environmental Sciences, Information Technologies, Social, Economic and Environmental Sustainability. Ca' Foscari is organised into 8 Departments carrying out both research and teaching, and 6 Interdepartmental Schools, a Summer School and a Graduate School. Ca’ Foscari research is funded with internal as well as international, European and national resources.

Ca’ Foscari has also obtained the Label of Human Resources Excellence in Research in 2017, and is now implementing the action plan to improve its recruitment procedures and boost the career of its researchers.
