2nd DISEI-Workshop on Heterogeneity, Evolution and Networks in Economics

Computational methods offer a vast kit of tools allowing to overcome the limitations of analytical tractability in modelling. Many of these methods are increasingly used in economics, and the theoretical implications of topics such as non linearity, network analysis, agent heterogeneity, bounded rationality, learning and interaction are increasingly recognized in the economic literature. The Disei Workshop on Heterogeneity, Evolution and Networks in Economics aims to provide an opportunity to spread and disseminate the most recent research on these issues.

Aims and scope
The workshop aims to bring together researchers from different countries working on the role of heterogeneity of economic agents, their interaction in a network structure and the evolutionary dynamics of the economic system. The selection of contributions will favor junior researchers. The main focus will be on computational models and their applications in the economic domain, with a particular emphasis on policy.

In particular, the call for papers includes the following topics:

  • Computational Economics
  • Network Theory and Applications
  • Nonlinear Economic Dynamics
  • Evolutionary Game Theory
  • Dynamic Games
  • Heterogeneous Agents Models in Economics and Finance
  • Market Microstructure & Fundamentals
  • Trade & Global Value Chains
  • Industrial & Environmental Policy
  • Macroeconomic Stabilization

Invited Speakers
  • Prof. Giulia Iori, City University of London
  • Prof. Thomas Lux, University of Kiel

Special Issue
Contributed papers may be submitted for a special issue on the Journal of Economic Interaction and Coordination.

Authors should submit full papers or extended abstracts (max 2 pages) to disei.complex.workshop@gmail.com. The first page of the submission must contain authors’ affiliations and at least three keywords. The submitter will be assumed to be the presenter, unless differently specified. Only one paper per presenter is allowed.

Important Dates
  • 31 May: deadline for submission
  • 30 June: notification of acceptance
  • 15 July: confirmation of participation
  • 7 September, 10 a.m. CEST: the workshop begins

Novoli, Social Sciences Campus, D6 Building. See the location on google map.

DISEI provides reduced rate accommodation at the following hotels: Hilton Garden Inn Florence Novoli, Hotel Cellai and Foresteria Valdese. Other accommodations available for University’s guests are listed at this page.

Social Program
All participants are invited to the social dinner which will take place on the evening of Thursday, 7 September. We plan to organize a guided visit of Palazzo Vecchio for the late afternoon of Friday, 8 September. The approximate cost of the visit is 30¿ per person, all inclusive. Applicants are kindly required to confirm within 15 July their wish to attend the social dinner and to communicate their eventual dietary requirements, as well as to express their interest in taking part to the guided visit, by writing to disei.complex.workshop@gmail.com.

Additional information
Please note that participants are required to deliver their presentation in person. A limited reimbursment of accommodation cost is available for junior participants. For all questions please refer to the e-mail address disei.complex.workshop@gmail.com.
